IoT & Embedded Systems Workshop for Manufacturing Client
The Brief
A Lagos manufacturing firm was exploring smart factory capabilities: automated production line monitoring, temperature and pressure sensing, and remote alerts for equipment anomalies. Their engineering team had mechanical and electrical expertise but no experience with microcontroller programming or IoT connectivity. Corespec was engaged to bridge that gap through intensive hands-on training.
Workshop Structure
- Week 1: Microcontroller fundamentals — Arduino and ESP32 architecture, GPIO programming, sensor interfacing
- Week 2: Communication protocols — UART, I2C, SPI, MQTT, and Wi-Fi connectivity
- Week 3: IoT platform integration — connecting sensor data to cloud dashboards (AWS IoT and Thingspeak)
- Week 4: Team project sprint — each team of 4 built a working prototype addressing a real production floor challenge identified by management
Prototypes Built
- Team 1: Automated temperature monitoring system with SMS alerts when thresholds were exceeded
- Team 2: Conveyor belt speed sensor with real-time dashboard
- Team 3: Humidity and air quality monitor for the warehouse, with historical data logging
Certification
All 12 participants received Corespec's Certificate in Embedded Systems & IoT Engineering. Three participants were subsequently enrolled in the advanced Embedded C and RTOS programme.
Client Outcome
The temperature monitoring prototype built during the workshop was adopted into production within 6 weeks of the training closing. The client is currently working with Corespec to deploy a full smart factory monitoring solution across their production floor.
